honey locust bowls : the final collection

All the bowls in my third collection are one-of-a-kind. They are made from honey locust trees, which were removed from a plaza off Central Park West as part of a construction project. We rescued the logs from the woodchipper and brought them to our Brooklyn apartment, where we chainsawed them into rough blanks. These ‘green’ wood blanks were turned first into rough bowl shapes and cured for over a year, allowing the wood to dry and stabilize. Each rough bowl was then turned a second time into its final finished shape.

For this final collection of honey locust, the finished bowls were fumed in an ammonia chamber to create their unique coloration. The heartwood darkened to a rich brown and the sapwood stayed its natural color. The bowls were aired out for 4 weeks before their finish coat was applied.

Each bowl is treated with a combo beeswax + linseed oil to be food safe and ready for your use.
